DELEGATIONThere is a limit to the number of persons a manager can effectively supervise and for whom they can conveniently make decision.
once this limit is exceeded, authority must be delegated to subordinated. The primary purpose of delegation can be defined as vesting of decision making power
on a subordinate by a superior. In other words, it is the transference to others, the responsibility for the performance of a specific task and or for the making of decision in a
general or specific area of management authority.
This means that the subordinate can only recive authority from his boss only and no one else- based on the unity of command concept. To be effective, the delegate must given full authority
to carry out his responsibility.
HOW TO MAKE DELEGATION SUCCESSFUL
i. Define assignment and delegate authority in the light of result expected.
ii. Select the person in the light of the job to be done.
iii. Maintain open lines of communications
1v. Establish proper controls to show only deviations from plans and not to monitor the details action of subordinates.
